Northwest Arkansas welcomed its first baby of 2012 bright and early this morning. And not only was the baby boy the first of the year, he was the first baby for two proud parents.
Less than a day old eight-pound-eight-ounce Wesley Ren Bottoms is already first at something. He was? born 20 minutes past midnight after the countdown to the New Year. On his first day he sported his new year's onesies and some Razorback gear on his feet.
"As long as we had a healthy little guy that's what we were worried about," said mom Heather Bottoms.
She said her baby wasn't getting enough oxygen so she had a C-section and now baby Wesley is healthy.
"We've been feeling him inside my belly. We've been talking about him for so long so now it's just come to fruition," said Heather Bottoms.
Wesley slept for the most part 5NEWS was there but woke up at the end of the visit. Every year Washington Regional Hospital gives presents to the first New Year's baby and today baby Wesley recieved many gifts.
This day will always be remembered since his birthday will always welcome a new year.
"He'll get to have lots of parties. I'm excited for him," she said.
Mom Heather said she had two different due dates but never thought baby Wesley would be born today. She is the assistant principal at Lincoln High School and is expected to return home with her newborn this Tuesday.
